I think we’re witnessing the most disruptive force in history. For the first time, we’ll have something smarter than the smartest human. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when that moment will occur, but eventually, there will be a point where no job is necessary. People can work if they choose, for personal satisfaction, but AI will be capable of doing everything. I don’t know if this thought makes people comfortable or uncomfortable. It’s like wishing for a magic genie that grants unlimited wishes, not bound by any three-wish limit. This situation can be both good and bad. One of the challenges we’ll face in the future is finding meaning in life if we have a genie that can do everything we want. New technology often follows an S curve, but in this case, we’ll be on the exponential part of that curve for a long time. You’ll be able to ask for anything, and instead of Universal Basic Income, we’ll have Universal High Income. In some sense, this could be a great equalizer, because everyone will have access to this magic genie.
